Try contacting Teleflora.com they have florists world wide that might help you get a bonsai to her. Money tree is something that is not so common. You can also get some great silk bonsai that may be better then live. Ecuador it the rose capital of the world. Send her roses.
Reply:No live plants, unless you can find a certified clean USDA place. I would suggest contacting a place in Ecuador, and seeing if you can buy it through them. Or perhaps send your friend the tools to tend a bonsai - they can be a bit expensive.

And seeds also cannot be shipped into the US, unless the have a certification from the USDA - this is enforced more strictly lately.
Reply:In general it's very difficult to ship plants in soil to a foreign country. Seeds and bulbs are usually OK, but anything that involves soil is prohibited or requires a permit.

That is the case for going from another country into the US, and I suspect that it is the same way going out. Even if you can get it through, I think the danger of introducing some bad insects or species to the local environment is just too high to risk it.

I am sure there are places in Ecuador that sell bonsai too.
